bread machine pizza dough

Since I'm experimenting with making most of my bread this winter in the bread machine, I decided to try using the dough cycle to make pizza dough for dinner tonight. It's a 6 cup recipe, and a 4 cup machine, which led to a little tweaking. I don't want to drop all the way to 4 cups, because that would make less dough than I really like for the two of us, but 5 cups should be enough. Hopefully it won't rise beyond the edge of the pan.

Christmas in Portland

Since my girlfriend went back in Pennsylvania for Christmas, I decided to accept portlandpiper's invitation to share Christmas with him and his wife. Of course it was a very foodie Christmas.

Our Christmas Eve dinner was homemade pizza. There was some good sourdough wheat crust with a baked tomato and chile sauce that he made with the surplus from his CSA share. A variety of cheeses and some good organic veggies and meats rounded things out nicely.

Busy piper's pizza and bread

Over the Memorial Day weekend I had a lot of piping events and forgot to keep track of my bread situation. Monday afternoon my wife asks me if I am baking bread since we are almost out and I realize that the sourdough starter is still sitting in the back of the refrigerator. So I say, "No, I will just swing by the store and pick up a loaf of Grand Central sourdough and we will get by with that for the week." I can tell that she is not too happy about it - but she is spoiled the rest of the time so it will not hurt her too much.

Giving The Rock a second chance

On Sunday night, we were meeting a bunch of Laurie's coworkers at The Rock in Lacey before heading down to Evergreen to hear Maya Angelou speak. Back about five or six years ago, we tried out The Rock up in Lynnwood shortly after it opened, but we weren't all that impressed. Their pizza was actually pretty good, but they only had their list of specialty pizzas, without much else. They had a policy of no split pizzas, and no substitutions of items. We ended up spending around $40 for the two of us, and while the pizza was good, it wasn't that good.

Friday is pizza day

Back when I was in elementary school, Friday was always Pizza Day at the cafeteria. It wasn't exactly good pizza, but it was a hell of a lot better than what they passed off as a hamburger.
