hot cocoa
It snowed today so I made myself some of this quick hot cocoa before heading out to work. It stirs up in just about the same time as oatmeal made with the steel-cut oats. (As long as you remember to start the oatmeal first.)
Servings:
2 to 3
Preparation Time:
0.25 hours
Tools
- small sauce pan
- fine wire strainer
- whisk
- liquid measuring cup
- measuring spoons
Ingredients
- 1/4 c. granulated sugar
- 1/4 t. kosher salt
- 3 T. cocoa powder
- 1/2 t. vanilla powder
- 2 c. milk
Cooking Instructions
- Put the sugar and salt into the sauce pan.
- Shake the cocoa and vanilla powder into the sauce pan through the strainer to break up the clumps.
- Slowly stir in about 1/2 c. of milk until you blend all of the chocolate and sugar into a thin paste.
- Stir in the rest of the milk and then place the pan over a low heat.
- Stir until you start to get some steam off of the milk. Do not let it boil.
- Strain into your serving cups.
Notes
Experiment with the flavours by adding 1/4 t. of your favourite spice. I like to use cinnamon and/or cayanne chile powder.
Be sure to warm your cups filled with water for 1 minute in the microwave so you do not lose any of the heat to a cold cup.
