A lemonade experiment
Today is now officially the hottest day on record all around the Puget Sound. Right now we're at 109° F and climbing. I wanted some lemonade, but I don't want to go out and buy lemons to make good lemonade, so I was going to make the regular old cheap lemonade using <GASP> lemon juice from a bottle. When it's this hot, it doesn't have to be good, it just needs to get the liquid in me.
Lately, I've been trying to use slightly healthier ingredients, and when I was reaching for my granulated sugar, I spotted my turbinado sugar and thought "what the heck." I then replaced the kosher salt with sea salt to add even more minerals. it still doesn't make it a health drink, but those extra minerals would be good for me in the heat.
It certainly tastes a little bit different, but not bad. I'll be blendering up a bunch of strawberries, which I think will really compliment the taste. Laurie just tried it and said that she likes it more than regular sugar lemonade.
8 cups water
1 cup turbinado sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup lemon juice.
