We finished up the last of the Christmas dinner left-overs last week and started in on what we have put up in the freezer during the summer and fall. Two years ago we had one share in our CSA and we ran out of our freezer stores around the end of March. This past year we had two shares in our CSA so we should have enough to get us through to the end of May which is when our CSA and farmers' markets really get going again.

Have you decided what mix of CSA and farmer's market you are going to be doing?

With the success of the potatoes this last year, we're going to try and grow a full years supply this year and try going with the buried garbage can root cellars to store them.

We are going to try to do

We are going to try to do more farmers' market now that we have several transitional and organic farmers' in the Tigard farmers' market and try out a different organic CSA.

Before last year we did not have any organic farmers at the Tigard market on a regular basis and the one transitional farmer had extremely high prices - I could get organic produce at New Seasons for less.

The food we got from the CSA was a little less expensive than purchasing it from New Seasons Market but the Tuesday delivery made our weekend shopping a bit hard to plan and we found we were having to make an additional trip to the store almost every week to get a couple more items to round out the meals. The CSA we are looking to try this year delivers to our area on Friday.

Makes sense. This way you'll have the best of both the CSA and the farmer's market.

The meat farm is going to going to show up in the parking lot of our farmer's market one Tuesday a month for people to pick up orders, and it will be a challenge to hit that time window.
