We got a lot of pears in our farm shares this year so I have been making chutneys and my wife has been using them in salads but there are still more than a dozen pears left in the fridge. So I figured cook one a bit and put it over vanilla ice creame. I had a pear tart with clotted creame before that was quite good so I headed to the kitchen a few minutes before "Inspector Lewis" was going to start to cook up a pear - and it was good.
Servings:
two per pear
Preparation Time:
10 minutes
Tools
- 9" to 10" saucier or skillet, w/ lid
- cutting board & knife
Ingredients
- 3 T. water
- pear
- 1/4 t. cinnamon
- 1/2 t. brown sugar
- dash of nutmeg
- pinch of kosher salt
- 2 T. muscat wine
- vanilla ice creame
Cooking Instructions
- Place the pan over medium heat while you peel and core the pear.
- Add the water to the pan then slice the pear in half and cut the halves into 1/4" thick strips.
- Place the strips into one layer across the bottom of the pan and cook covered for two minutes.
- Uncover and sprinkle the cinnamon, brown sugar, fresh grated nutmeg and pinch of salt over the pears.
- Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for one more minute.
- Drizzle the wine over the pears. Cover and cook for one more minute.
- Uncover and cook until the liquid thickens into a syrup - one or two more minutes.
- Spoon pears and syrup over ice creame and enjoy.
