Ground beef taco mix

During college I practically lived off the 29 cent Taco Bell tacos, or home made tacos using the packet mixes. I still get the urge for ground beef tacos a few times a year, but the way I make them now is much tastier, and better for me.
I use this mix for tacos, burritos and in nachos. It can be pretty tasty in a nice Mexican omelette as well.
Preparation Time:
0.5 hours
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 6oz cans diced tomatoes
- 2 4 oz cans chopped green chiles, or 6 roasted green chiles chopped.
- 4 tablespoons chopped garlic
- 2 medium yellow onions, diced
- 1 can black beans
Spice Mix
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoon corn starch
- 1 teaspoon corn meal
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 3/4 teaspoon New Mexican chile powder
- 3/4 teaspoon Chimayo chile powder
- 3/4 teaspoon Chipotle powder
- 1 tablespoon Mexican Oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
Cooking Instructions
- Brown your meat in a large skillet or sauce pan. Crumble it as you go.
- While meat is browning, stir together all the ingredients in the spice mix.
- Strain the grease off of the meat and return it to the pan. Add the water followed by the spice mix. Stir it in to coat the meat.
- Add the rest of the ingredients except the black beans. simmer for 15-20 minutes till the tomaotes start falling apart and the onions soften.
- Stir in the black beans and cook for about 5 more minutes to make sure they are good and warm.
- Serve it up with your choice of tortillas and other fixins.
